Compare
Animedic vs PetDesk.
PetDesk is a client-engagement layer that sits on top of the practice management system you already have. Animedic is the practice management system and the client app in one. Here is what that difference means, honestly.
This page compares the two products as products. Information about PetDesk comes from PetDesk’s public website and third-party software listings, last checked September 2026.
- 01
Different categories
PetDesk adds reminders, texting, booking, phones and marketing to a PIMS you keep paying for. Animedic replaces the PIMS and includes the client side.
- 02
The same record on both screens
PetDesk copies data out of your PIMS and back on a schedule. In Animedic the owner’s app and the clinic’s chart open the same record, so a weigh-in logged at home is already in the chart.
- 03
What Animedic leaves to others
PetDesk also sells a phone system and marketing services. Animedic does not. Keep your phone provider and your agency; Animedic runs the chart, the schedule, the invoice and the client app.

PetDesk product names (Communications, Phones, Online Booking, Scribe, Marketing) and integration details are taken from petdesk.com as of September 2026. Where PetDesk bundles a partner product we say so. If something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
Where PetDesk is stronger today.
A comparison that only lists the other side’s weaknesses is an ad. These are real reasons a practice picks PetDesk.
It keeps your PIMS
If your team knows your current system and you do not want a migration, PetDesk adds client communication without touching the chart.
Phones and marketing
PetDesk sells a VoIP phone system with caller ID from the PIMS, and websites, SEO and ads through WhiskerCloud. Animedic does neither; keep your phone provider and your agency.
Breadth of integrations
PetDesk connects to a long list of practice management systems, so it fits into almost any clinic as it is. Animedic only works as the practice management system.
Scale
PetDesk reports more than 12,000 practices on its platform, and that footprint shows in its support and onboarding playbooks.
Where Animedic is different.
Fewer systems to run, and one record that belongs to the owner.
One bill, one login, one record
Charting, scheduling, invoicing, payments and the client app in a single system. There is no PIMS underneath to license, integrate or keep in sync.
The owner owns the record
PetDesk’s app shows the owner what the clinic pushes to it. Animedic’s app is the owner’s own record: it follows the pet between clinics, exports as a PDF for any vet, and can be shared with family, sitters and specialists.
Reminders that come from the chart
The vet sets the booster date while closing the visit. The owner gets the reminder and books from the slots the clinic opened. No third-party sync window, no duplicate client lists.
Estimate to paid in the room
The estimate becomes the invoice. The owner pays by card or Apple Pay through Stripe or Square, including the Square Terminal, and the receipt lands in the record.
Public pricing
$199, $399 or $699 a month by practice size, with the whole platform in every plan. The Scribe add-on is priced separately.* No quote call to find out what it costs.
Built as one product, not a bundle
PetDesk’s booking, phones, scribe and marketing arrived through acquisitions and partners. Animedic’s clinic and owner apps were designed together from the first screen.
You probably met PetDesk through your vet.
The PetDesk app works when your clinic pays for it and shows what that clinic chooses to share. If you move, switch vets or see a specialist, that history does not travel with you.
Animedic’s app is free, is yours, and works with any vet. Every vaccine, prescription and weigh-in stays in one record you can export or share, whether or not the clinic uses Animedic.
See the pet parent appAnimedic or PetDesk?
Partly. Animedic covers what most practices use PetDesk for: reminders, messaging, online booking, a pet owner app and, with the Scribe add-on, dictated SOAP notes. It does not offer a VoIP phone system or marketing services. Because Animedic is also the practice management system, a practice moving to Animedic replaces its PIMS and its PetDesk subscription together.
